Quite often I speak with individuals whom have purchased and read Magnetic Sponsoring but have yet to grasp exactly how to apply the strategies and principles revealed in it.  In my opinion I think people “don’t get it” because the concept is so blazingly simple but at the same time counter-intuitive to our first instinct which to tell absolutely everyone we come in contact with about our business immediately.  The principle of attraction marketing is to promote your business by not promoting your business; instead provide value to your audience over time.  So how exactly do you do that, you may ask.  I feel that the best way to do this is by using a system. Let me explain it this way…

 Let’s just say that you have a new home and you’ve invited all your friends, business associates and new neighbors over for an open house.  For many of them they will be arriving at your house for the first time and in order for them to get there you have to provide them directions.  “Turn left once you get to Spruce Street, and then take a right at the second light onto Camden Rd, once you pass the church on the right turn at the next right into Saguaro Cliffs Estates and I’m the third house on the left.” 

Once they arrive at your home you invite them in and begin to give them a tour of your residence that you are quite fond of.  First is the foyer, then the sitting room and you stroll into the dining area and show them the immaculate hutch you purchased while you were on a trip in Japan that your spouse just could not go home without, the living room in which your family spends numerous hours on end, you turn the bend into your warmly lit office and show off your “command center”, next is a quick trot upstairs to reveal the various bedrooms, workout room and TV room with your favorite recliner then back downstairs where you end the tour in the kitchen.  You offer them something to drink and start some small talk prior to whatever the main event for the visit may be, let us just say it is dinner.   

 So the night ends and you accompany them to the door and you and your guest exchange the following “You have a really nice home, I really like what you have here.  You’re welcome to stop by anytime, my house is your house.”  And so it is as your guest now becomes a friend who frequently stops by to hang out and see what you’re up to.  It finally dawns on, “Hey I didn’t show you my backyard yet, want to take a look? Without any resistance they politely proclaim “Sure, I’d love to.”  Off to the backdoor of the house you lead with them in trail and open the door to your most prized and prideful oasis.  “You got an okay backyard man, it’s nice.”  What?! Okay?!  Whether they like it or not you love it and you’re pretty proud of what you got going on back here if they don’t like it they can just continue to hang out inside, no biggie. 

So let’s go over how this scenario applies to your business and attraction marketing.  Your business building system is like your home.  You give others directions to your “house” or system through various forms of connecting (blogging, Facebook, etc.), we call this driving traffic.  Once they arrive you give them a tour to the various “rooms” in your house which are in the form of value-based tips, tools and resources; each room may have something different that may help them with their existing business problems.  As they become more and more familiar with you and your home they’ve come to enjoy hanging out at your house because they always receive value when they are there.  Finally the time comes when you can introduce them to your primary business, your back yard.  By this time they are comfortable with you and whether they like your business or not they are still okay with considering you a friend and your home a place they can go and not feel any discomfort of being pitched every time they step through the door.  Oh, and they also love to let others know how much they enjoy hanging out at your house. 

Now let’s discuss how most individuals are presenting their business…  Instead of letting their business be the back door they are proudly displaying their business as a bright red front door.  So you’ve worked so hard to make sure that you give people the right directions to your home and once they finally get there they pull up in your drive-way and notice your bright red door.  What if they completely detest the color red and what If they do not like your front door (your business) at all?  They are not even going to get out of the car; they’ll pull away just as fast as they got there.  You never even got to get them in the door and share with them what your business is truly about.  You’ve lost them, they’re gone forever, and they’re not coming back…trust me.
